At only 25, Giggs is already a veteran of six seasons and winner of every domestic honour. This tricky left winger is dripping with flair and is always a joy to watch. His primary assets are his pace and dribbling and many a full-back has been tormented by these attributes making him an integral part of United's attack. He is also a tremendous passer of the ball and willing worker for the team. His creativity has led to countless goals and he has proven that in a more central midfield position he can open up the tightest of defences with his vision and penetration. Giggs made his debut as substitute against Everton at the ageof 17 and in his full debut against Manchester Cityscored the winning goal.
His most productive season goalscoring wise came in 1993/94 when he struck 17 times in all competitions.
His most memorable contributions last season were his performancesagainst both Juventus and Porto at Old Trafford. Two games in which he ran both defences ragged proving that he has thepedigree to dominate matches at the highest level. His goal in Vienna was probably his most important of the
campaign as it set United on their way to the win that
guaranteed their place in the quarter finals of the Champions Cup. This
season he has continued to add to his growing stature on the European
stage by producing dominant preformances in the Champions League. This
included a stunning display against Juventus that saw him create
Sheringham's equalising goal and then score a superb third in the final
minute.
As the season panned out Giggs remained at the top of his form as he
enjoyed his best season ever. However in February a hamstring injury picked
up against Derby County at Old Trafford put Giggs out of action until late
April. The result couldn't have proven so dramatically how dependant United
had become on Giggs. United's form dipped drastically leading to
elimination from the European Cup and Arsenal clawing back United's once 12
point lead at the top of the table. His return didn't come in time to save
United's season but 1997/98 proved that when free from injury Giggs
is unquestionably the "real deal" at the highest level and will be crucial
in any future success.
